Motorcycle Insurance Policies from the Asphalt Up

Online Motorcycle Insurance Quotes

You and your motorcycle don’t fit a mold. As such, your motorcycle policy shouldn’t fit a mold either. Nonetheless, large insurance companies don’t seem to get this. They’ll cobble together a motorcycle policy from an auto policy and use it for as many customers as possible. At Markel, that’s never the case. All of our motorcycle policies are custom-built for each and every customer. Simply put, your policy is, well, your policy. It’s made to the exact specifications of who you are, how you ride, and what sort of coverage you need to ensure peace of mind for mile after mile.

Competitive motorcycle insurance rates.

At Markel, we pride ourselves on offering our customers the best motorcycle coverage at the best price. When comparing motorcycle insurance rates, we’re sure you’ll find that Markel offers motorcycle insurance rates that are just as competitive — if not more competitive — than other insurance carriers.

Accessory Coverage

Everyone knows that half the fun of owning a bike is customizing it. Everyone also knows that customization can get pretty expensive. So be sure to protect your customized dream machine with Markel’s Collision Coverage. It includes $1,000 of accessory coverage to help take care of your customized pipes, seat, and even your leather riding jacket.

And if you go really “Hog Wild” with accessories by adding a fairing, windshield, luggage rack, sissy bar, safety guards, highway pegs, a crash/roll bar, chrome light, radio, and CB, no problem. Just be sure to purchase the right amount of additional accessory coverage. We offer four accessory coverage packages ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. And if that’s still not enough (say your accessory value is more than 50% of your bike’s current market value), an agreed value settlement option may be right for you.

When deciding on the amount of accessory coverage you need, be sure to take into account anything added onto the bike that is not included as standard by the manufacturer. Remember, even if you haven’t added any accessories, your dealership or a previous owner might have. Anything that is different from the stock unit, as produced by the manufacturer, is considered an accessory and should be included in your accessory value in order to be covered.

Agreed Value Settlement

With Markel’s Agreed Value Settlement option, we essentially “lock” in the value of your motorcycle at an agreed-upon price (with the exception of depreciation to tires, batteries, and engine parts).

If the worst happens and you’re facing a total loss, we’ll pay you the agreed-upon value if we can’t replace your motorcycle with one of equal quality, make, and model.

(An appraisal and photographs must be forwarded to us for review before this coverage will be added to a new or existing policy.)

Bodily Injury Liability

No one ever wants to get in an accident — especially not one in which someone gets hurt. Unfortunately, accidents happen and people get hurt.

Bodily Injury Liability coverage protects you from someone to whom you become legally liable due to a motorcycle accident that causes injury, sickness, or death.

Keep in mind, this motorcycle insurance coverage does not cover your injuries, only injuries of others for which you are legally liable.

Collision

With Markel’s Collision coverage, your bike’s repairs or replacement costs (minus your deductible and subject to the settlement type terms) are covered in the event of an accident caused by collision or upset. Deductible options for this coverage are $250, $500, $1,000, $1,500, or $2,000.

Comprehensive

There are many things that can happen to a motorcycle that don’t involve a collision. That’s why we offer comprehensive motorcycle insurance coverage. It pays for the damages (minus your deductible and subject to the settlement terms) that are the result of fire, theft, vandalism, or hitting a deer. To match the diverse needs and desires of our customers, we offer the following deductible options: $250, $500, $1,000, $1,500, or $2,000.

Medical Payments

It’s a sad fact, but sometimes motorcycle accidents lead to injuries. Markel’s Medical Payments Coverage provides excess medical payments (after any other medical coverage) for any operator or passenger regardless of fault, subject to the coverage limit and deductible.

Passenger Liability

Markel’s Passenger Liability Coverage protects you in the event you become legally liable due to an accident to a passenger who is not insured. Since each state is different, please call us at (800) 236-2453 for information about who is considered insured in your state.

Property Damage Liability

Markel’s Property Damage Liability Coverage provides protection for other people’s property if you become legally liable for damages that occurred while operating your insured motorcycle. Remember, this coverage does not protect your bike or you, but will pay for damage to other people’s property for which you are legally liable.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage

Markel offers Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage. It provides protection for your injuries or death if you are involved in an accident with a motorist who either has no insurance or insufficient coverage and is considered at fault. This coverage varies by state, so please call (800) 236-2453 for specific information.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage

Markel’s offers Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage. It gives additional protection against property damage caused by a motorist that has either no insurance or insufficient coverage and is considered at fault. This coverage varies by state, so please call (800) 236-2453 for specific information.

Replacement Cost Settlement

Depreciation? What depreciation? Drive your new motorcycle home from the dealership — or even for three years after its model year — and your new bike is still new to us. If you have a total loss, we will replace it with a comparable bike with no deduction for depreciation.

If, at the time of a total loss, the insured motorcycle is in its current model year (or the first through third preceding model year) and you have purchased the Replacement Cost Settlement coverage, Markel will pay the cost of a new motorcycle that is the same as the insured unit or to the closest extent possible.
